Steel Grills, Canopies and Roller Shutters: Securing Homes and Shops in Uganda
For most Ugandan property owners, security is not optional. Windows and doors need burglar-proofing, shops need strong fronts that lock at night, and verandas, walkways and parking areas need shade from the sun and shelter from heavy rain. Well-designed steel works deliver all of this — and can look good too. EDEVA Uganda's steel team fabricates grills, canopies, steel windows, shades, shop fronts and roller shutters.
Window and door grills (burglar-proofing)
Grills let you keep windows open for ventilation while keeping intruders out. When ordering:
- Choose the section size — solid bars or hollow sections of adequate thickness are harder to cut or bend.
- Fix into the structure — grills should be anchored into the wall or frame, not just screwed to the surface.
- Plan an emergency exit — at least one openable grill with a lock in bedrooms and offices, so people can get out in a fire.
- Design matters — decorative patterns look far better than prison-style bars and are just as secure.
Canopies and shades
Canopies over verandas, entrances, parking and walkways protect people and walls from sun and rain. A steel frame with struts fixed to the wall carries roofing sheets such as IT4 or bull-nose profiles. Shop fronts and roller shutters
Shops and kiosks need a front that is open and inviting by day and secure at night. Options include steel shop fronts with vents, sliding grill doors and roller shutters that roll up into a box above the opening. Roller shutters are quick to open and close and take no floor space.
Security counters
Cash offices, forex bureaus and pharmacies need counters that protect staff. EDEVA has built forex bureau counters that combine steel grills, aluminium frames and granite tops — strong, secure and professional.
Protecting steel from rust
Steel must be properly primed and painted, especially at welds and cut ends. Repaint exposed steel every few years, and check canopy gutters and joints before each rainy season.
