Planning an Office Fit-Out in Kampala: A Step-by-Step Guide from Empty Floor to Move-In Day
You have signed the lease on an empty office floor. The landlord hands over bare walls, a concrete ceiling and a few sockets. In a few weeks your team needs desks, meeting rooms and a reception that makes a good impression. An office fit-out has many parts, and the order you do them in makes the difference between a smooth move and a chaotic one. Here is the sequence EDEVA Uganda follows.
Step 1: Brief and layout
List how many people will work there, how many private offices and meeting rooms you need, storage, a kitchenette and reception. Sketch the layout on the floor plan with windows, columns, sockets and AC units marked. Put people who need quiet away from reception and the kitchen.
Step 2: Site survey and quotation
A contractor should visit, measure every wall and window, check the ceiling height and note any leaks or cracks. You should receive a clear quotation broken down by partitions, ceilings, painting, blinds and other works.
Step 3: Repairs and first-fix services
Fix roof leaks and cracked plaster first. Electricians and data technicians run cables for new sockets, lights and network points before partitions and ceilings close things up.
Step 4: Partitions
Aluminium and glass partitions go up quickly and keep the office bright; timber or drywall suit boardrooms and executive offices. Doors and locks are fitted at this stage.
Step 5: Ceilings and lighting
The suspended ceiling is installed and lights, AC grilles and smoke detectors are set into it.

Step 6: Painting
Walls are prepared and painted once the dusty work is over. Painting last avoids scratches and dirty marks from other trades.
Step 7: Blinds and finishing
Blinds are measured on the finished windows and installed. Film strips or frosting go on glass partitions for privacy, and signs go on doors.
Step 8: Furniture, cleaning and handover
Workstations and chairs arrive, the site is cleaned, and every door, lock, blind and light is checked before you move in.
